UNISON is the largest union in the community and voluntary sector, with more than 60,000 members working in every type of job across all grades. Our members work in non-profit organisations ranging from large national charities with hundreds of employees to small-grant aided projects employing one part-timer. They provide a range of services to local communities and campaign on all sorts of issues.

UNISON now has a brand new group - Community - covering all of our members working for charities, housing associations and other voluntary sector organisations. This group ensures that UNISON provides a strong focus and a prominent voice for all of our members in the community and voluntary sector.

Action for Children - pay offer accepted

In a consultative ballot, UNISON members have accepted the pay offer of a £60 payment.

Community service group conference - 3-4 March 2012, Brighton

The 2012 Community service group conference will take place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th March, in Brighton. This is the service group conference for UNISON members in housing associations, charities and other community and voluntary organisations, and all branches with members in Community are eligible to send delegates.

Facility time – Community service group guidance

Facility time is one of the most important issues faced by UNISON reps in the Community service group. It is vital that we secure, keep and improve facility time agreements if we want to represent, recruit and organise workers. This new guide brings together existing advice provided by UNISON, the TUC and ACAS, and provides specific advice for reps organising in charities, housing associations and the rest of the community and voluntary sector.

Action for Children - consultative ballot

(07/07/2011) This letter and consultative ballot, on management's pay freeze and proposed changes to redundancy terms, have been posted to all UNISON members in Action for Children.

Mutual benefit?

UNISON has published a major new report on the Government’s proposals to increase the provision of public services by mutuals. The report, entitled 'Mutual Benefit? Should mutuals, co-operatives and social enterprises deliver public services'.

Action for Children pay update – industrial action ballot

Lengthy pay talks between the unions and Action for Children on pay have not resulted in an offer that the union negotiators can recommend to members. We will therefore be balloting members on whether they wish to take industrial action. This bulletin updates members on this issue, as well as various other terms and conditions issues about which we are currently in talks with Action for Children.
