UNISON response to the 2011 RIDDOR Consultation document
12 May 2011

(12 May 2011) UNISON welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Discussion Document on the proposed amendment to RIDDOR.  We are however concerned that the current proposals stem not from a wish to improve our health and safety regime but from the need to respond to the recommendations of the Young review.  This is clearly wrong as the Lord Young review stated aim was not intended to improve the health and safety regime, but “to free businesses from unnecessary bureaucratic burdens and the fear of having to pay out unjustified damages claims and legal fees....”
