Tackling climate change

UNISON members recognise that we all have a role to play in helping to reduce C02 emissions that cause climate change. This includes doing things differently at home and at work. But it also includes campaigning for policies on issues such as energy and transport that will reduce emissions and create green jobs. As the UK's largest public services union, with 1.4 million members across local government, the health service, education, housing, transport and the utilities, our priorities include
- greening our workplace
- providing information to members
- using our campaign experience to call for fair and effective action to tackle climate change
What should I do next?
- Sign up to our environment at work network and receive our regular newsletter Green UNISON
- Get your branch involved in key green campaigns backed by UNISON, such as Friends of the Earth Get Serious About C02 or Fair Pensions Tar Sands campaign
- Become a trade union environmental representative.
To find out more about becoming a trade union environmental representative you can download a draft job description. The TUC run courses for environmental reps and UNISON offer an organising around climate change branch development course. There is also a model agreement that your branch can propose to your employer which is available to download.
