Further education

UNISON is the main union for support staff working in further education colleges.

Our 25,000 members include learning support staff, librarians, IT specialists, technicians, professional staff, administrative and business support staff, cleaners, canteen staff and estate management staff.


 

Further education colleges spent at least £65 million on agency staff last year

Information obtained by UNISON via a freedom of information request shows that 170 colleges spent a combined total of £64,613,485 on agency staff in 2010/11.

Independent Review of Professionalism interim report – urgent IfL news

(02/04/2012)  UNISON gave oral and written evidence to the independent review panel on professionalism in FE, which published its interim report on 26 March. This report deals with the issue of regulation and the role of the Institute for Learning.

AoC pay recommendation for 2011//12 confirmed - England

The Association of College (AoC) has now sent out the final FE pay recommendation to all colleges as 'confirmed'.

Pensions Ballot in Further Education and Sixth Form Colleges - Vote YES to Protect Your Pension

Dave Prentis announced at the recent TUC Congress that UNISON will be balloting for strike action to protect public sector pensions. The ballot has been approved by the Local Government Service Group Executive to include LGPS members working in further education and sixth form colleges.
