Partnerships
UNISON is developing partnership agreements with other trade unions and professional organisations. Each have their different characteristics, but all have in common a commitment to working together at local and national levels. This schedule will be kept up to date with the key agreements.National Union of Journalists
Journalists who work for public sector employers can be full members of both unions provided they pay a subscription (the lower of the UNISON rate or the NUJ Grade 2 rate) direct to the UNISON branch. Such members receive the same support as they were ordinary members of the UNISON branch.
Managers in Partnership
A union created by UNISON and FDA especially to recruit and organise senior managers in healthcare. Health managers should normally be allocated the MiP branch. MiP members are full members of UNISON. Local trust branches will lead local negotiations but should work in partnership with MiP as appropriate.
British Association of Occupational Therapists
BAOT is the professional organisation for OTs. It is independent from UNISON but we have an agreement providing for all BAOT members to be members of UNISON. They pay their subscriptions through BAOT and are allocated to appropriate local UNISON branches who should ensure they are included and supported as any UNISON member.
British Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists
BAPO is the professional body for prosthetists and orthotists who work mainly in hospitals. They pay their subscriptions via BAPO and are allocated to a national BAPO branch. Health branches should seek to ensure the inclusion of BAPO members in local activity, and may be asked to assist a representative from outside the branch on casework where necessary.
College of Operating Department Practitioners
CODP is the professional body and is a part of UNISON. CODP exist to protect professional status of ODPs, and provides professional support to its members but not casework. CODP members are NOT automatically members of UNISON.
